I got Freckles when I was just 4 years old, He was a border collie mix, I wanted to name him Lassie, but mom insisted that was a girls name, so judging by his lil freckles on his tummy, I chose his name.

Freckles was my best friend, right through it all, He stood by me at the bus stop the first day I started school. He followed every step I took. Freckles was a strong dog, surviving getting hit by cars 3 or 4 times, getting his leg amputated because of a gunshot wound, heart trouble, his front teeth were knocked out, many dog fights (protecting me), but as the years past he was right by my side.

After 3 moves, Freckles still tagged along where ever I went. In 1998, when I was 15 years old, Freckles got hit by another car, which dislocated his back hip leaving him with only 2 legs to use. He also got a respitory infection and liver failure. I knew our days were coming to an end, but it was so hard to face, being that he had been there for me since I was 4.

Late December of 98, Freckles got really sick. I slept outside with him cuddled in a blanket, somewhat saying my last goodbyes. As Christmas Eve approached I had to go on a trip with the family. I hugged Freckles and kissed him. I could tell by the look in his eyes that would most likely be the last time I’d see him.

Sure enough on Christmas morning my stepfather called, Freckles had died in the car on the way to the vet. Freckles stood by my side through the many tears, and 11 hard years. He was my best friend in which I could confide when no one else was there.

I miss him more than words could ever describe. I’d give anything just to hold him one last time..but I know he is in a more peaceful place looking over me now. I love you Freckles !!!!!!!!!!!!!
